The bumpy ride of fatherhood

It's 20 minutes to midnight and I'm still wide awake...not even caring that my shift starts at 7am tomorrow..
It's been a really speedy weekend for me..not like the last weekend...this week my luxurious two days off that just so happened to fall on a weekend ended in a blink of an eye. Too much stuff cramped into 48hours...but time well spent with the family, of course.
Today, for the first time, Leilani responded to me scolding her...and I felt real guilty for scolding her after that! (Not that I always scold her!)
What happened was that earlier this evening, she picked up all 12 of the newly bought crayons and threw it around all over the place, and I just said harshly " Lani! Why did you do that?" and told her to pick them back up. As usual she would ignore and go on and do something else, but this time I thought, I just had to let her know that what she did was wrong. So I gently tapped her hands and repeated what I said to her earlier. She just kept quite, (as usual) and not long after, she looked at me and (as usual) called out, "da-da". "Dada don't wanna friend you", I said. Then she looked at her mummy who was sitting beside me and called out, " mama?" "Mama don't wanna friend you too," I said. Then suddenly she began to pick up the crayons, one by one and handed them to me, and when she could not find anymore, she said " no more"..that's when I felt a sudden sense of pity for her...I picked her up and told her how much I loved her and that I am happy now and that we were friends again...and somehow it was as if she understood all this (maybe she actualy did!) and she gave me one really tight hug....as if to say she was sorry..
this is gonna be one hell of a ride!!
