Year of the Rat...

It's 15mins to 2am, technically it's the 2nd day of the Chinese New Year, the Rat Year. Where am I? Sitting in the back office, at work, obviously, running the night shift. Actually I requested for the shift. Knowing that 2 of my colleagues will be off celebrating the new year, thus I volunteered for the shift. At least I did get to sort of celebrate it and join in the annual Tan family's New Year gathering in Holiday Villa Subang. The usual faces were there, thanks to Uncle Bill who seems to hold the Tan extended family together well.

Just as I was coming up to type this from the staff cafeteria, I overheard a group of Housekeeping staff congratulating one of their colleagues who had just found out that he won first prize in the lottery. It was kinda odd, cause that was the second first prize winner I heard in just this month! When you hear the close people around you getting all this 'durian runtuh' it tends to get REALLY tempting.... I never believe in all this lottery thing, plus religion wise, it is known to be a sin. But it just really is tempting, the action of spending a small amount on cash and winning BIG. But hey, (thank god!) common sense reminds me that there are so many number combinations to try out, and if you keep spending the same small amount trying, in the end of the day, you may only win lesser than what you have actually 'invested'. Good luck to all who are still trying....and congrats to all who had actually won....

Leilani just turned 2 last month. She has begun to form simple sentences in her speech and every time she speaks, it's really fascinating to see the development. She now knows how to use the word 'I' to refer to herself and 'mine' to show her possession of either something (her bear, etc) but mostly when she refers to me, being 'hers' alone. She is also very fast in mimicking what people say, and is quick to understand the usage of certain new words she had just picked up. For example, the other day, while driving, Lissa said " becareful" when I was approaching a bump on the road and Leilani, who was just about to drink from her bottle while on her mum's lap, repeated the word almost immediately, and shortly after, added "becareful, Dada, Lani minum"....WOW!
