The Big Three 'O'

Today, I am 30 years and 8 days old....three zero...three decades....scary, very scary...



Mum was being rather emotional nearing my birthday last week...kept asking me what I wanted for my 30th birthday. And I kept saying I don't need anything. But she insisted and told me that 30 years is a big thing, and both she and dad would like to get something special for me to remember it by....they even came to a point of sending emails of pictures of a Seiko watch and a Ipod shuffler to see whether I liked any of them...which I replied politely with a big 'No thank you'...Truthfully, I did wreck my brains thinking of what is it that I MAY need and my parents could get for me as gift, but I just can't think of anything. Alhamdulillah, it seems that I already HAVE everything: A good and decent upbringing and education, a wonderful family and lots of love and care around me....what else can a man ask for? But I did jokingly ask mum for a new 2008 Honda Accord, though...hehehe. In the end, I received a very 'subtle' gift from both of them, a green praying mat (sejadah) with a birthday card....as subtle as a knock on the head...



But the biggest birthday gift I got this year (apart from the beautiful framed thumbnail photos of me from young to now from my ever-loving wifey and the very thoughtful mp3 player laden with 1 song each from 1978 to 2008 from my bro and his wife izza) was a surprise phone call from another hotel a few days before my actual birthday, offering me an opportunity to work with them...with a post that is higher than what I am doing now...and after all the necessary negotiations and discussions, I have decided to take the challenge and leave Westin KL. Thus, on May 13th, 2008, a day before my 30th birthday, after 1 year and 6 days being a 'Westinian', I tendered my resignation as a Duty Manager. Alhamdulillah, rezeki anak....another new chapter in my life....Insya'Allah...
